Curator and Organizer
Avanti Nagral is a student who will be attending Harvard University in 2016. She is passionate about Public Health and Medicine. Over the past 6 years, she has done work in the fields of Music Therapy, Anemia, Organ Donation, Cardiac Disease and CPR/Emergency Care. In 2013, she founded YCPR, a Youth Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation campaign which empowers the youth to help save lives within their communities. It aims to create a network of Bystander CPR trained youth, ready to administer life-saving treatment when the need arises. It was seed-funded with her earnings as a performing artist and won an award at the EMCON 2014 Conference.
Avanti is also a teenage Performing Artist who sings in productions of Broadway Shows, Concerts and Events. Her diverse music repertoire extends across both Western and Indian music. She has performed at venues across India, including the Gateway of India, NCPA, Prithvi Theater and Siri Fort.
A few highlights: Avanti has been nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) at the META National Theatre Awards, for her lead role of Agnes in the reproduction of the 1982 Broadway Play ‘Agnes of God’ in India. She sang at the Gateway of India for the 26/11 National Tribute event. Avanti has sung at events like the Mumbai Marathon (Asia’s largest international marathon) Charity Awards event and the Terry Fox India Event. She performed at a cross-generational concert in Delhi celebrating women, sharing stage with iconic artist Usha Uthup. Avanti has also performed festivals like Totem Pole (India’s first Teenage Music Festival, featuring international and national artists), and will be opening and performing at the Worli Music Festival. She was featured on Seher, a popular radio show by Anup Jalota with a nationwide audience of over 10 million listeners on India’s largest Radio Station: 92.7 BIG FM.
DR. CS PRAMESH
Dr. CS Pramesh (Tata Memorial Centre)
Pramesh is the Professor and Head of Thoracic Surgery and past convener of the Thoracic Oncology Disease Management Group at the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. He serves on the core committee of the Clinical Research Secretariat of the hospital. He is also the coordinator for the National Cancer Grid, a large collaborative network of 63 major cancer centres, research institutes, patient advocacy groups and charitable organizations in India.
His primary clinical areas of interest include the treatment of esophageal and lung cancers and minimally invasive surgery. He is the Secretary of the Indian Society for Diseases of the Esophagus and Stomach (ISES) and is a Directorate member of the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus. He is the Principal Investigator in several investigator-initiated research studies including randomized trials on cancer screening, surgical techniques, and neoadjuvant treatment of thoracic cancers. He has written more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on topics in his specialty, including esophageal and lung cancers, minimally invasive surgery, tracheal, mediastinal and chest wall tumors, clinical research methods, biostatistics, translational research in oncology and cancer policy.
Pramesh has strong interests in clinical trial designs, specific issues with surgical trials, biostatistics, promoting collaborative research and cancer policy. He is keen on promoting training of early career physicians and surgeons in clinical research methods and conducts several formal and informal courses on clinical research methodology, biostatistics and scientific writing. He is passionate about reducing inequities in cancer care and making cancer treatment accessible to all strata of society.
DR. CHITRA LELE
Chitra Lele, Ph. D.
- Over 25 years of professional experience, with about 23 years in drug development and epidemiology
- Eighteen years of pharmaceutical industry experience in safety, regulatory and clinical development activities, 10 years in setting up offshore operations for a top-3 global pharma co. in India, and over 8 years in providing offshore services to pharmaceutical companies as a functional service provider
- She was responsible for India’s first Biometrics Center supervising over 400 staff in clinical data management, programming, medical writing and clinical statistics over a period of about 10 years.
- Responsible for setting up the Academy for Clinical Excellence, the pioneer institute in India for training in Clinical Research and a founding member of the Indian Association for Statistics in Clinical Trials
- Prior experience includes work as a biostatistician in cancer epidemiology at Stanford University and University of California, San Francisco and as a faculty member at the School of Statistics at the University of Minnesota, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and University of Pune, India
- Has over 20 publications in Statistics and medical journals of international repute
Shaanzya is a Std X student based in Mumbai, India. During her stint as Art Co- Editor at J.B. Petit High School for Girls, she realised that pursuing the Arts was what gave her the most joy. Shaanzya is currently frolicking with multiple art forms to identify which expressions best speak to her passion. She has tried her hand at designing a book cover, T-shirts and logos for events, besides incessantly doodling her thoughts over any surface she finds! Shaanzya is a scuba diver and a gourmet at heart. She will also willingly devour TV shows, theatre and movies of any genre.
Kabir Nagral is a Std IX student at Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. He is passionate about using technology for the benefit of human health and society. He is developing a mobile-based GPS/Location enabled technology platform to alert Bystander CPR trained individuals of a live cardiac event within their community, allowing them to locate the victim and administer CPR in a timely fashion. Kabir is the Technology Head for YCPR, a Youth Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) campaign that aims to create a city-wide network of CPR trained youth. Kabir loves to combine music and technology, and is learning the art of sound engineering and sound design. He has been the soundtrack editor for multiple music events, shows, and theatre. A local reproduction of the 1982 Broadway show, Agnes of God, for which Kabir did the Soundtrack Editing, has been recently nominated for the National Theatre Awards in 7 categories. He plays two musical instruments and has been the Captain of his school Under-12 and Under-14 football team, while maintaining a very high academic standard.
